Liquid Cat Books proudly presents ""The Hummingbird and The Marigold,"" by Johnie J. Guerra. Traditional forms do not bind this book's poetry style. Instead, it focuses on storytelling straight from the heart to amplify the Indigenous oral traditions of Mexican American ancestors and illustrate Chicano and Native concepts. Inspiration was drawn from the Mesoamerican love story of the hummingbird and the marigold to convey the message of eternal togetherness and love. Like the two main characters in the story, who were transformed and became a permanent part of nature, we can transform ourselves to treat each other and the earth better. This poetry collection embodies Chicano pride and honors Chicano history. It illuminates the revival and strengthening of Chicano culture in San Antonio's Westside as it continues to evolve into the future. These poems document stories of community, family, and friends. This is Johnie J. Guerra's first collection published by Liquid Cat Books.
