The House of Boleyn: the gripping new historical novel from the Sunday Times bestselling author

Overview

HEVER CASTLE HOLDS ALL THE BOLEYN SECRETS... Hever Castle was the home of the Boleyn family and this brilliant and breathtakingly dramatic novel charts the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn through her wider family, entourage and servants. The Boleyns are one of the most controversial and captivating families in British history. Anne Boleyn's turbulent relationship with Henry VIII, who pursued her for seven years before finally making her his queen and then ordering her execution just three years later, has traditionally taken centre stage. But in the same way as Downton Abbey did for the fictional Crawley family, as well as following the lives of the Boleyns themselves, The House of Boleyn will also bring to life the servants who worked for them and whose lives were completely tied to those of their employers. The household at Hever will include loyal servants, governesses and stewards, ambitious place-seekers and treacherous spies, as well as visitors from neighbouring estates and the court - including Henry VIII himself. As Henry's interest in Anne becomes an all-consuming obsession, the worlds of Hever and the court become ever more enmeshed, with dramatic - ultimately catastrophic - effects.

Reviews

Tracy Borman introduces us to a new character in Anne Boleyn's story: Hever Castle itself. Amidst the comings and goings inside the castle walls we witness Anne's meteoric rise and terrifying fall, while also sharing in the trials and triumphs of a compelling cast of characters. Beautifully written, Borman turns a familiar story on its head and takes you deep into the Tudor world. This is historical fiction at its best -- Elizabeth Norton

With an expert eye for detail and beautiful characterisation, Tracy Borman takes her readers on an epic journey back in time to the surroundings of the tranquil Hever Castle. There's nothing tranquil about this story, though, which is full of the backbiting, power struggles and devastating heartbreak at the core of the Boleyn family's rise and fall. Deliciously scandalous and breathtakingly brilliant, if you buy one book this spring, make it The House of Boleyn. -- Nicola Tallis Sensational - you'll never see the Boleyns in the same way again. A thrilling read, beautifully conjured and written. Anne bursts to vivid, passionate, determined life and Tracy's Tudor expertise and scholarship transports you to Anne's world - wonderful -- Kate Williams
