The Hotel Letters

Overview

The Hotel Letters is a unique collection of poetry, prose-collage and micro-fiction, written on notepaper from hotels during Baxat's travels throughout Europe between 1998 and 2008. The pieces which make up The Hotel Letters are characterised by a focus on ephemeral moments and experiences of travel, all while challenging boundaries, utilising hybrid forms to collage and montage the scraps, the fragments, the thoughts, observations and memories into a cohesive and occasionally overwhelming assault upon the senses. A narrative emerges, memories are stirred, and these fleeting moments and sensory impressions in transient spaces blend with the ambiance of the locations in which they were written. The Hotel Letters explores themes of impermanence and intimacy; the mundane hotel stationery used as a canvas for Baxat's poetic reflections, inventions, observations and evocations.
