OverviewWe gain our testimonies of the gospel of Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Ghost, but we are converted when by faith we obey its principles and its doctrines. It is not enough to believe that the gospel is true, because belief is only the mental assent to the validity of a principle or doctrine, without the moral element of responsibility that we call faith. We believe ""that there is one God,"" and by so doing, we do well. But ""the devils also believe, and tremble."" (James 2:19). Our faith in the gospel is dead, or is of no efficacy, if it is not accompanied by the witness of the Spirit. I have written these devotionals relating to the Holy Ghost, hoping that they will provide us with encouragement during our journey to the veil, where we will kneel at the Savior's feet. He will call us by name, and will say: ""Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things. I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."" (Matthew 25:21).
