This Letter is dated at Lions the 9th of June. At the fame time the Pope wrote to'all the German Princes, declaring such of them as continued to favour Frideric cut off from the Communion of the Apostolic See and the Catholic Church, as the Friends of an avowed Ememy to botht. In the mean time Frideric, still acknowleged by most of the Ger-Year of. man Princes, issued several Edicts in Germany as well as in Sicily, J-v-Li' against all, without Distinction, who should pay any Regard either to Several the Sentence or the Menaces of the Pope, ordered the Magistrates fjfajf'tfa throughout the Kingdom of Sicily to punish, as Rebels, all who mould Emperor observe the Interdict, and refuse to perform Divine Service, or to ad-a f f the. r Monks and minister the Sacraments, banished most of the Monks, and obliged the the Clergy. Clergy to pay the Third Part of their Income, and, besides, all the Taxes imposed on the Laity. To prevent any of the Monks, whom the Emperor looked upon as so many Spies of the Pope, from going to Rome, he forbad them, upon the severest Penalties, to travel from one Place to another without a Pass signed by some of...
