Overview

""I have always loved fairy tales,"" says the author, Edith Hartnett, ""and have never felt they should be seen simply as entertainment for children. The fairy tale that is true to its genre unlocks another, far broader, kingdom of the mind. We came onto this planet aware of certain innate truths: good is stronger than evil, life is a quest to achieve a higher goal, and ultimately we are united with our Beloved and made whole. Later on, these truths become clouded by the stress of our busy lives. The fairy tale recalls them to us.""

Reviews

This will be my last book, the author tells us. Now in her mid-nineties with failing eyesight, she must put down her pen after a remarkable storytelling career and let the reader enjoy the tales she has woven. The final stanza below from one of her poems, Golden Noon, sums up her look back from the pinnacle of a l ong and fascinating life. So how should I ever be lonely or how should my heart grow old, who won the wind for my lover on a day when the world was gold? -- Ramon Sender Barayon
