"This guide offers a panoramic view of the evolution of the Milanese railway network from the very beginnings to nowadays, while also hinting at potential future developments. There will be a showcase of the traces left by the currently suppressed lines in the topography of the city, as that of the old Central Station of Milan and of the Sempione Yard. The guide also contains the indications to find the historical routes on the city map and it features valuable suggestions on the places to check out to discover the still visible signs of the past. There will also be suggestions about some routes you can follow - similarly to a tourist guide - in order to see the old tracks, suppressed or still active, which will be cited in the book, as that of the second Italian railway line 'Milan-Monza', the Sempione Yard, which has been unused for decades but is still visible on the road system, as well as the very suggestive route along the 'Naviglio Grande' belonging to the 'Milan-Vigevano' railway line. The book includes a guided tour of the area outside the Central Station of Milan defined by architect Frank Lloyd Wright as being ""the best station in the world"".
