The Hebrew Alphabet: Book of Rhymes for English Speaking Kids

Overview

ENHANCE YOUR CHILDREN'S FUTURE. INTRODUCE THEM TO A FOREIGN LANGUAGE This first book in our ""A Taste of Hebrew"" for kids series focuses on the Hebrew Alphabet. In this book, the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet are illustrated and spelled out in English and in Hebrew. Alongside the letters, 22 basic Hebrew words, appropriate for young children, are taught in a fun way. The words that are selected, one for every Hebrew letter, are written in Hebrew, transliterated and translated into English, and depicted with an attractive illustration. Each Hebrew word included in the book is incorporated into little English rhymes that will help kids and adults recognize the Hebrew Alphabet and learn foundational words in this beautiful language. The book also offers a Hebrew Alphabet chart, a transliteration guide, and proper pronunciation help with 'sounds like...' examples. A bit about the history of Hebrew as well as fun facts about this beautiful language is also included.

Reviews

THE JEWISH BOOK COUNCIL Review by Marge Kaplan Written for very young children and the adults in their lives, TheHebrew Alphabet uses brightlycolored drawings to present Hebrew letters in Hebrew, in English, and in Hebrewtransliteration. This is followed by a sweet rhyme. For example, dalet is shownin Hebrew, there is a drawing of a teddy bear which it is given the Hebrew name dubi , and the accompanying rhyme is: Tiny little Danny wants his pet in to come to bed; Mommy finds a DUBI to sleep with him instead. The words chosen to accompany the Hebrew letters such as dog, horse, or cake areall within the realm of a young child's vocabulary and the repetitive structureof each page makes it easier for little ones to learn what is being taught. Additionally, there is a lot of useful information included for adults. Anauthors' note points out that boys and girls who learn a second language ...have also been found to be better at learning, planning and self-control. Additional material teaches about the revival of the Hebrew language in the1800s by Eliezer Ben-Yehuda in the hope that reading and speaking Hebrew willgive a lifelong connection to Israel and the Bible. Some phonetic pronunciationinformation about Hebrew is also included. This is the first book in a series and the authors promise that there will bemore in the Taste of Hebrew for Kids Series to come. Recommended for children 3-8 years of age.
