Overview

Tabby Darling Shine, the youngest of the Darling and Shine families of Bennett Spring ran away to the chaotic streets of San Francisco in the spring of 1967 but soon discovered that California dreamin' is not what she expected. Once home, she is caught up in the building of a new Catholic chapel, the arrival of a Cuban refugee and a dear friend's return from Vietnam, in a wheelchair. She also finds a runaway of another sort in her beloved valley and together, they help each other to discover the promise of a new future despite the ashes of the past.
