Health-and-wealth teaching. Alternative medicine. False promises. A friend encourages you to use essential oils to treat migraines. What's the harm in that? Your mom enjoys the occasional yoga class. What's the harm in that? You listen to a radio preacher who proclaims that your cancer will vanish if you just pray with enough faith. What's the harm in that? There's plenty of harm in that. In all of that. There are people suffering with disease and pain everywhere. The Church must address their needs and questions properly instead of turning a blind eye to their pain or ignoring their pursuit of false promises through adherence to health-and-wealth teaching or the use of alternative medicine. Our answers must bring them a sense freedom, encourage their faith, and not allow them to become trapped under the weight of unrealistic expectations or to live under the sway of modern snake oil salesmen. We must not confuse them or make their lives more difficult. We, the people of God, must be examples of God's love both within and outside of the community of faith, so that all will be drawn to seek His face.
