Reviews

As other reviews have pointed out, this book is a must-read for anyone considering making the leap from employment to contracting. Far from being a generic 'how-to' guide, the Happy Contractor is stuffed full of practical advice, such as finding work, negotiating fees, and navigating financial / tax compliance issues), as well as frank, yet comprehensive explanations of the risks (and how to minimise them) and rewards (and how to maximise them). The book also provides an interesting look at behavioural and relationship differences of contracting versus employment; interactions with a client rather than an employer, the perception of contractors versus an employed colleague, and so on. The author draws on personal experiences throughout, providing clear perspective without patronising the reader. - Amazon customer Very well written and informative. The book offers an insight into the world of contracting and an unbiased review of whether it's right for the individual. A vital read in order to avoid any pitfalls of the world of contracting or if you are trying to decide whether contracting is right for you. - Amazon customer I wish I had such a comprehensive summary when I started contracting. It would have saved days of agonising over piece-meal information from the various contracting websites and from friends over short calls to build a holistic view. I still remember that the big challenge I was facing then was that I did not even know what questions to ask and what to search. This book does a great job in laying out the information in a very logical and simple manner and should help all aspiring contractors/consultants to get up to speed quickly. In fact, I learnt a couple of things from this book after 7 years of being a contractor! Great effort by the author who is clearly a very well experienced contractor herself and knows the ins and outs of running a contracting business. Strongly recommended. - Amazon customer
