Overview

The Greatest Rowing Stories Ever Told collects articles and excerpts of classic rowing stories, from the inception of the sport on English waters in the eighteenth century, through the scandalous era of professionalism (and gambling) of the nineteenth century, to the popular amateur sport of today. The contributors include prominent oarsmen and women, rowing journalists and writers, historians of the sport, and even poets and songwriters. Recall here the great rivalries, the pageantry of the regattas, the poetic solitude of the single sculler, and many other aspects of a sport entering its third century.

"""The Greatest Rowing Stories Ever Told comprises perhaps the most diverse and multifaceted rowing book I've ever encountered. Readers can dip in and out of this collection rather than read it in a linear fashion, and the best pieces can (and should) be re-read often. In this sense, this book makes an excellent and inspiring companion for long bus trips to regattas for collegiate and high school rowers, and it's also likely to spark thoughtful and even wistful memories for old-timers still paddling out on the water."" --Michael J. Socolow, author of Hear The Boat Sing ""What an eclectic mix of writings are contained within its soft covers... Dip in to it and you will be rewarded."" -- ""Rowing News"""
