OverviewHello to all of you dinosaur fanatics! I hope you are ready to learn about some of your favorite extinct (no longer living) animals. This is what you will find in this book. First. For each dinosaur you will find several pictures. Some of these pictures will show the fossil remains of a dinosaur and other pictures will show what we think the dinosaur looked like when it was alive. It's important to remember that we don't really know what dinosaurs looked like, how tall they were, how heavy they were, or many other things, but we can take a guess. There may also be footprint pictures. Some dinosaurs have left footprints, that you can still see today. Second. Along with the pictures you will see how to pronounce the dinosaurs name and what its name actually means. This name will often describe something about the dinosaur. It will make sense when you read it. Third. You will discover what time period the dinosaur lived in and how long ago it lived. These time periods are discussed on another page. Fourth. We will see how big the dinosaur was. The height and weight will be given along with something to compare that to. By relating the size to something we all have seen, it's easier to understand. I will use an average of what others think is correct. No one is actually sure. For height and weight, we will use things like this to compare dinosaurs to. - Let's say a school bus is about 30 feet long. - The average African elephant is about 11 feet tall and weighs around 12,000 pounds. - The average adult human is about 6 feet tall. Again, the dinosaur height and weight will be an average of what paleontologists have found. Fifth. We will look at key characteristics of that particular dinosaur. In other words, what makes this dinosaur unique. What did it look like? What can we see in our pictures? Sixth. We will see a complete skeleton, just like you would see in a museum. We will compare that skeleton to what we think the dinosaur looked like. Much of it is just a guess and maybe you will imagine the dinosaur looked a different way. Often complete skeletons haven't been found, so all we may have is a drawing. Seventh. We will look at the footprints and discuss how to identify them. It's good to know dinosaur footprints, just in case you see them in your neighborhood one day. Eighth. We will find interesting facts about that dinosaur. Lastly, there will be some fun activities. You will have: 1. A picture of the dinosaur to color. Color it anyway you want. Remember no one knows exactly what the dinosaur looked like, so imagine it in your own way. 2. There are connect the dots pictures. 3. Navigate the dinosaur through a maze. 4. Find the two pictures which are the same, and more.
