He received a Ph.D. in systematic theology from Drew University. He has also done postdoctoral work at Oxford (England), Marburg and Tuebingen (Germany). He is an ordained Presbyterian minister and has pastored several churches. He also taught for many years as a visiting professor at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte and has taught at several seminaries.
