Andrew Carnegie emigrated from Scotland to the United States in 1848 at the age of 13. At age 65 he sold the Carnegie Steel Company to JP Morgan for $480 million and devoted the rest of his life to writing and philanthropy. David Nasaw is the author of the nationally bestselling biography The Chief- The Life of William Randolph Hearst, winner of the Bancroft Prize for History, the J. Anthony Lukas Book Prize, the Ambassador Book Prize for Biography, and finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. He is currently a distinguished professor of history and Director for the Humanities at the City University of New York Graduate Center.
