OverviewWe need more than ever to be spoken back to life again. Our endless forms of self-activation in the church and culture today have proven to do little more than exhaust us, make us anxious, and ultimately disappoint and depress us. Despite our impressive effort, preaching has not escaped this prison of self-entanglement. Snoozing in the pew is now the good ol' days as more and more people report a pathological aversion to preaching. Perhaps there is a common thread--leaving Jesus behind. Leaving Jesus behind is the broken pattern of every human heart, even the preacher's. The Gospel Arc preaching model seeks to take Jesus with you in preaching. It is preaching that experiences Jesus with the Bible. Practically, the Gospel Arc helps biblical communicators discover and display the ""Textual Jesus"" from Genesis to Revelation, thereby unleashing divine energies to wake up the snoozer and finally electrify the self-activator. Taking Jesus with you in preaching changes everything. Even preachers. ""Can these bones live?"" God probes the preacher. Suffering from the inability to maintain a ministry, the preacher gives a lame non-answer. ""Preach to bones!"" God startles the preacher. As he does, stranger things happen. The bones live (Ezek 37:1-14). This book will help 'those who have a fire caught up in their bones' to declare more faithfully and fruitfully the crucified, risen, reigning, and returning Lord, who calls all people in all places to follow the arc of his life and love. --Todd D. Still, dean, Truett Theological Seminary With keen insight and great inspiration, Hatton shows us the life-giving necessity for the preacher to encounter Jesus himself through the study of Scripture. The Gospel Arc provides preachers with an effective tool that ably advises how to preach the biblical text in light of Jesus' work even as this text provides our understanding of who Jesus is. . . . A true gift to preachers and Christian communicators alike. --Preben Vang, director, Doctor of Ministry program, Truett Theological Seminary This book shows how to preach Christ through all the Scriptures. It is well organized, carefully presented, and biblically sound. I am thrilled to recommend it, offering the prayer that this helpful guide will lead us afresh to Christ and that he would become the focal point of a kind of Christian preaching that is sound, relevant, motivating, and life-changing. --John D. Hannah, professor, Dallas Theological Seminary The Gospel Arc is not a how-to manual for becoming a better preacher/pastor; it is a method of discovering Jesus and his salvation in the text! . . . Jeff is one of the greatest preachers I have ever sat under and I cannot recommend this book enough. It is not only helpful for preachers caught in the weekly grind of coming up with 'fresh' sermons, but it will help you devotionally to see and discover Jesus in ways that enliven your soul. --Pete Hatton, pastor, Redeemer Edmond, Edmond, Oklahoma The Gospel Arc follows the rich tradition of great books on preaching. Here Dr. Hatton illuminates two important poles of exposition--the historical context and the eternal meaning of Christ and his salvation. Hatton bridges these two poles to return Christ through the Word and Spirit to the forefront of the sermon. A practical and refreshing guide, this enlightening book underscores having Jesus at the forefront of biblical exposition. This book will surely transform both the messengers and hearers of God's Word. --Bill Thomas, executive director, SW Church Planting Network As a college student, the gospel came alive to me in new ways through Jeff Hatton's preaching, and I was energized to learn to preach Christ myself. . . . I am thrilled this material is now in book form and I trust it will encourage and equip preachers to proclaim Jesus and his salvation from every text of the Bible. I know it is giving me a fresh wave of desire to encounter Jesus in the text! --David Rapp, pastor, Redeemer Presbyterian Church, Temple, Texas The Gospel Arc shows us how to 'take Jesus with us' as we read and preach Scripture. After twenty-two years of preaching to the same congregation, Jeff Hatton shows us how to use contemporary, yet really ancient, tools in order to participate with the Lord in the preaching of him from our hearts and from all of Scripture. --Joseph Ryan, former chancellor, Redeemer Seminary, Dallas Jeff Hatton has a lot of experience in ministry. But, as I know, a lot of experience golfing doesn't help unless you have the right swing. Jeff does. Actually, it's an arc: the greatest story ever told, because it is about the Father's saving mercy in Christ from Genesis to Revelation. But how do you 'preach Christ' from the whole Bible? Jeff shows us how to connect the text in its original context to the wider scope of the unfolding story. If we're looking for real transformation in our lives, churches, and communities, it starts right where this book directs us. --Michael Horton, professor, Westminster Seminary California Hatton's work offers ministers a way to offer winsome witness to the Living Word through the Written Word.
