The Good Faith

Overview

In an unnamed society, the Standard Bureau of Regulations rules over its citizens with the doctrine of 'Good Faith': a philosophical principle with very real-world consequences. Through the teachings of Good Faith, and the persistent threat of brutal punishment, the Bureau keeps its citizens on track to focus on the only thing in the world that matters: their work. S, a violent, aging man with a violent past, has been re-allocated by the Bureau out of the city, following his brutal attack upon a sex worker, and to the physically demanding labour of farmwork, over which he is profoundly miserable. With only a few years left until his Retirement, and consequential freedom from the workforce, he is nonetheless determined to see his sentence through. However, this is all turned upside down when one day, he has a chance encounter with a Performer- a strange kind of outcast whom the Bureau considers to be its worst enemy, and the biggest threat to its perpetuation of Good Faith. Simultaneously, M is in the first year of her Higher Studies and doing her best to survive in the industrial jungle of the city. As she navigates burgeoning adulthood and friendship with R, her best and only friend, she cannot help but be haunted by memories that call into question everything she has been taught to believe by the omnipotent Bureau. When R asks for her help with a sensitive matter, M is locked into an ill-fated journey that reveals to her, once and for all, that the Bureau's 'Good Faith' is founded on an enormous, and devastating lie.
