Overview

Some people believe God is a spoilsport who wants to take everything exciting and/or the least bit pleasurable out of our lives. He would really like it if everyone ended up in a monastery. Some view God as a harmless old man perched on a cloud somewhere with a long flowing white beard. He's in His world and we are in ours. He's basically out of touch. Others see God as kind of an heirloom passed from one generation to the next. He's a God of the past which we inherit as a hand-me down. Still others consider God a celestial policeman who is primarily interested in law enforcement. His greatest concern is that we not do certain sinful things and He always punishes those who step out of line. For some church folks God is a meeting goer. They meet God at religious meetings, go through some rituals, but have little other contact with Him. Then there are those who treat God like Santa Clause. He is there to answer all our prayers and give us everything we want which includes health, wealth, and prosperity. Many look at God as a monster who does nothing to stop all the suffering and pain in the world. He simply watches as people are raped, tortured and killed. And there are, of course, those who don't even believe there is a God. At best, he is just a point in some people's creed. At worst, he is the opiate of the masses as Karl Marx believed. If there is a God, it only makes sense that we discover who someone that important really is. It is for that reason this book was written. The first chapter explains why, unlike agnosticism, atheism is not a reasonable belief. The next ten chapters deal with general misconceptions people have of God. Chapters twelve through fifteen expose some of the misconceptions Calvinists have of God. And in the final three chapters, I reveal what the God I know is like. My hope in writing this book is that readers will come to know that God.
