Reviews

Peter Millward has written a lucid and compellingly argued book on the English Premier League as precisely 'the global football league' these days, a book which is certain to become a classic piece of the growing literature on football in its relation to wider socio-political developments. It is a must-read for the academic audience, but also has to offer the generally football-interested public a lot. [ ] Millward's book is a brilliant, knowledgeable, thoroughly readable and fascinating piece of work. It is certain to spur further research while already becoming one of the key texts to be referenced and used as a guide for such research. - Sport & EU Review The seemingly ever-quickening pace of globalisation processes means that keeping pace with their multiple impacts on sport cultures can be challenging. Millward, therefore, provides a timely and useful contribution in conducting a series of case studies concerning three football clubs (Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City) as emblematic of the most global sports 'brand' in the world; the English Premier League (EPL). - Managing Leisure
