Overview

A young adult novel, the first of a series of four novels dealing with coming-of-age themes, friendship, first love, and prejudicial assumptions in many forms. The main character is Allison, a fourteen year old girl in her freshman year of high school who moves from the city (Los Angeles) to a rural community (Sierra Mountain foothills). She is quiet outwardly, but thinks too much and sees herself as an unattractive dork. In spite of past social difficulties, she makes new friends - who she's not sure whether to trust or not - and who are all are involved heavily with horses and horse sports. Other sports these new friends are involved with include surfing, snowboarding, and motocross.
