Time and time again, we write letters to our future selves, projecting our hopes and dreams onto them. But what about those we leave behind? What about the children who morphed into the adults we are today? What would they think? Would they love us? Would they hate us? Did we make them proud? The Girls We Grew Up to Be is an inverse take on this tradition. Instead of looking ahead, let us turn back to the children we once were. We peer into the mirror of time, stepping into the past and back again, reflecting on the girls we used to be and the people we have become. This is the tale of how we grew up, how our stars collided, creating black holes whose gravity made us crumble from within and how we built ourselves back up again. We have changed in ways we never imagined, becoming both strangers and superheroes to our younger selves. We find echoes of them in everything we do and so, we ask: would the children we once were be proud of who we are today? Are we?
