He studied history at Balliol College, Oxford and gained a PhD from Lancaster University. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books, including The Origins of the First and Second World Wars and Hitler, Chamberlain and Appeasement. He has appeared on several TV and radio programs on the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, and the History Channel. He currently lives in Liverpool, England.
