OverviewWhere Methodism comes from is a disputed question in historical scholarship. Making use of German scholarship, the author shows that what the Methodists did in England duplicates what the Moravians did in Germany. As a Methodist Wesley simply continued what he had been doing as a Moravian evangelist. This reading simplifies the origins of Methodism and makes it a great deal easier to account for Wesley as a coherent thinker and Methodism as a doctrine with some intellectual identity.
