The Ganzfeld Memorandum: A Premonition

Overview

France has been placed on the highest level of alert following the attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris. Security sources in Britain warn of terrorist spectaculars. Iraq and Syria threaten to create a new generation of black widow female suicide bombers, amid fears that lone wolf saboteurs may launch an offensive that defies intelligence predictions, strategic logic and the judgment of political pundits. The constitution, meanwhile declares that habeas corpus is inviolate except in cases where constitutional rule is being replaced by a state of emergency. The prediction that an undisciplined democracy may collapse by its own rules can also be found, of course, in the words of the same constitution. In fact, if Hitler, Napoleon and Philipp II failed to bring Britain down, present projections assume that most European countries will eventually submit to an Islamic theocracy, rather than anything resembling British liberal democracy. The Office for National Statistics predicts about 60% of the vote will come from migration, buttressed by a higher birth rate among ethnic minorities. And that fact is the point of departure for Malleus Maleficus, the contemporary Cato the Elder, a Roman senator whose Carthago delenda est -implied as much a struggle for the preservation of a national identity, as a battle for the soul of the West.
