Starting at Selkirk College in 2008, he was an organiser for a successful referendum to extend full students' union membership to adult basic education and transitional training programs. Crispin was elected to represent Selkirk College students on the Executive Committee of the then-Canadian Federation of Students-British Columbia. As a member of the CFS-BC Executive Committee, Crispin organised a day of action against high tuition fees and student debt in the West Kootenays. In 2011, he was elected Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students-British Columbia and worked to strengthen the organisation's longstanding relationship with the labour movement. For the next five years, Crispin variously held leadership roles in the student movement, including two terms on the National Executive of the Canadian Federation of Students. Crispin served for several years as a full member of the British Columbia Federation of Labour Young Workers' Committee. As a member of the Committee, Crispin was involved in the success of the $10 Now campaign, as well as the development of the Fight for $15 campaign to increase minimum wage. Crispin has served as a shop steward with the Canadian Union of Public Employees and an Organiser for the United Food and Commercial Workers.
