Endurance: The Frozen Keep: Tales from the Heroic Age of Exploration

Overview

2023 American Writing Awards Best Graphic Novel, Children's Book International Nineteen-year-old Jack Robinson is running out of time... The Endurance is departing the next morning, and he has to make a choice: Should he stay on the remote Island of South Georgia with the girl he had fallen for, or continue on an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime expedition to explore Antarctica? To compound his angst, his brother had abruptly left the ship to stay in Great Britain and now Jack has to make this agonizing decision alone... In the early days of World War One, the sailing ship Endurance quietly left England with famed explorer Ernest Shackleton and twenty-nine crewmen on board. Their mission: Head for the distant Southern Ocean, fight through the pack ice of the Weddell Sea, then launch Shackleton and five other polar explorers across the vast frozen wilderness of Antarctica-1,800 miles on foot, with sleds and dogs. Shackleton would call this epic journey, The Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition. Based on true events, Endurance, The Frozen Keep is an epic tale that transports readers onto the decks of a wooden ship navigating the ice-filled seas of Antarctica and into the ravaged battlefields of Europe during World War One. Follow the journey of Jack Robinson, the young electrician aboard the Endurance, and Leah Carlberg, a young woman horrified by the slaughter of whales on her home island, in this gripping, coming-of-age adventure that intertwines the raw brutality of nature and the chaos of war. A beautifully illustrated graphic novel, Endurance, The Frozen Keep, is full of harrowing twists and turns. This amazing story of courage and survival will keep you turning the pages and on the edge of your seat!

Author Information

Terrill Sullivan lives in Carlsbad, California with his wife of 35 years. A difficult family and social life in high school led him to escape into the Southern California surfing subculture. He went on many adventures in California, Baja Mexico, Mainland Mexico, and Hawaii. In college, a biology major took a left turn in art and Terrill found his passion. Marriage and kids came later, plus a cat and a parakeet named Zoomer. From owning a small sign shop in North County San Diego to mid-level management of a graphic design team, he still finds time for creating narrative fine art and illustration.
