The Freedom Agenda: Why a Balanced Budget Amendment is Necessary to Restore Constitutional Government

Overview

AMERICA IS BANKRUPT As the federal government crashes through one debt ceiling after another, Americans are facing a grim future of inflation, economic stagnation, and ultimately, national insolvency. Our increasingly desperate situation stems from a broken political system in which Congress brazenly defies its constitutional limits, grabbing more and more power as it recklessly plunges our nation into the abyss. As one of Congress’s leading budget hawks, Senator Mike Lee argues there is only one way to defuse our fiscal time bomb and permanently force fiscal responsibility on Congress: adopt a balanced budget amendment. In this urgent book, Senator Lee explains: How the fight for a balanced budget amendment is part of a larger battle to reign in our out-of-control Congress How balancing the budget will increase the individual liberty of every American How major federal programs can—and must—be eliminated How a balanced budget amendment can be designed without the loopholes spendthrift congressmen will want Why the chances of enacting a balanced budget amendment are better now than ever before History is littered with nations that were destroyed by wasteful spending. As Senator Lee shows in compelling detail, if America is to remain a land of freedom and opportunity, we must act now to eliminate our government’s ruinous, unsustainable debt. With a balanced budget amendment, the fight for fiscal responsibility and limited government can be won—and as Senator Lee warns us, our liberty and prosperity depend on it.

Reviews

Praise for The Freedom Agenda:  The bureaucratic fat cats in Washington are spending us into oblivion, and the mainstream media are too busy pandering to Barack Obama to notice that our country is going dangerously astray. In this book, Senator Mike Lee explains exactly how we got into this mess in the first place, how the courts have allowed it to happen, and how patriots like you and me can put our great nation back on track. If you share Thomas Jefferson's view that big government leads to tyranny, I urge you to read Mike Lee's important new book.  Mark Levin Nationally syndicated radio talk show host  In The Freedom Agenda, Senator Mike Lee clearly explains how presidents and Congresses have exceeded the confines of the Constitution and how the courts have let them get away with it. His proposals to limit the federal government's ability to take and spend our money will frustrate the big government types in both parties and warm the hearts of freedom lovers everywhere.  Hon. Andrew P. Napolitano Anchor of Freedom Watch on Fox Business Network  Mike Lee has written a book that would make our Founders proud, especially Alexander Hamilton, our first treasury secretary, who put America on a firm course of sound money and prudent finance.  Steve Forbes President and chief executive officer of Forbes  Senator Mike Lee reminds us of something that our Founders knew well: big government is a threat to freedom-loving people everywhere. We must stop its growth, and Senator Lee makes a compelling argument that a balanced budget amendment is the best way to do just that. There's no better advocate for this kind of common-sense solution than Senator Lee, and there's no better book to explain how to make it a reality. -Glenn Beck #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Original Argument
