Stanley S. Harakas This volume is what ecumenical dialogue is all about--honest exchange that, when shared, provokes rediscovery of a shared Christian view. The conclusions reached in this report show both the complexity and the promise of the search for peace by the Christian churches. Daniel F. Material in this book will be of assistance to Christian communions in North America and around the world as we inaugurate the 'Decade to Overcome Violence: Churches Seeking Peace and Reconciliation' (2001?2010). Konrad Raiser This volume is an important contribution to the ecumenical discussion--important particularly for how it explores the inner connections between the search for church unity and the call to peacemaking. Grounding the ministry of reconciliation and peace in the church's confession of the apostolic faith and relating it to the church's very being are important theological contributions. To my knowledge, this is the most serious effort to date to review historically the position of the different Christian traditions on the question of peacemaking and pacifism. . . What had long been considered a fundamental divide regarding the ethics of war and peace has here been transformed into a dialogue of ecumenical questioning and mutual accountability.
