Overview"This is an updated edition of Louis Appell's ""Cosmetics, Fragrances and Flavors"" (1982). The changes to this edition are in the title, in the section on the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association adopted names which has been updated, the addition of an index and the correction of a number of typographical errors. Over half the book deals with the formulation, chemistry and manufacturing procedures of cosmetics. It provides over 200 trade formulations from the manufacturer's ingredient label declarations of manu famous quality cosmetics and toiletries divided into 20 cosmetic classes, which should be useful in studying recent trends in formulation, and suggests formulations for preparing similar products. The second section of the book deals with the physical aspects of odour and a practical method of perfume creation based on olfactory equilibrium with the help of sytematically arranged formulas for French French-style perfumes and colognes. Additional sections deal with imitation essential oils, speciality perfume bases and perfumes for cosmetics and soaps. Flavour compositions, the stability of aromatic products in various cosmetic media and synthesis of selected aromatic chemicals are also discussed.
