OverviewThis study attempts to reveal the importance of one of the important struggles against Portuguese colonial occupation in Guinea-Bissau, but perhaps the least known or recorded in the history of Guinean literature. It goes back to the revolts and resistance that different ethnic groups in Guinea-Bissau launched in response to the systematic invasion, violence and pillage perpetrated by the Portuguese colonial forces and their allies on indigenous lands and properties during the so-called ""pacification campaigns"" more than 50 years ago. This Portuguese colonial invasion culminated in fierce resistance on the part of the native Guineans, from the beginning of the pacification wars at the end of the 19th century to their defeats in the first and second quarter of the 20th century. The study argues and concludes that the remarkable contribution of these ethnic groups in the struggle for freedom preceded the national liberation movement carried out by the revolutionary PAIGC party for independence in the 1960s and 1970s and provides recommendations for promoting this important historical event in future Guinea-Bissau literature.
