Overview

The Flying Saucers Are Real is the Original Classic Exposé of the UFO Phenomenon. On December 26, 1949, WWII American Marine Corps naval aviator Major Donald Edward Keyhoe published an article in the January 1950 issue of True Magazine entitled, ""The Flying Saucers Are Real."" He soon expanded his ground-breaking article into this book, which sold over half a million copies. It was Major Keyhoe who opened up the extraterrestrial possibility to the public. This volume represents the first, serious inquiry into the mystery of the flying saucers. This new edition features a new introduction by researcher Linda Moulton Howe, and is fully illustrated.

Upon receiving his B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1919, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. In the 1950s he became well known as a UFO researcher, arguing that the U.S. government should conduct research in UFO matters, and should release all its UFO files. He is regarded as an important pioneer in the field of ufology.Keyhoe's article ""Flying Saucers Are Real"" appeared in the January 1950 issue of True magazine and caused a sensation. It was later expanded with much additional material into the book you are reading.Keyhoe wrote several more books about UFOs, including Flying Saucers from Outer Space (1953). Albert M. Chop, the Air Force's press secretary in the Pentagon, characterized Keyhoe as a ""responsible, accurate reporter"" and further expressed approval for Keyhoe's arguments in favor of the extraterrestrial hypothesis.Carl Jung, the father of analytical psychology, argued that Keyhoe's first two books were ""based on official material and studiously avoid the wild speculations, naiveté or prejudice of other [UFO] publications.""In 1956, Keyhoe cofounded the National Investigations Committee on Aerial Phenomena (NICAP).
