OverviewThe Flower of Gloster first appeared in 1911 after its author, E.Temple Thurston, hired a canal boat called 'The Flower of Gloster' and travelled along the waterways of central England; starting in Oxford he headed northwards to Warwickshire and then south-westwards to Tewkesbury, through the Golden Valley and finally ending his journey in Lechlade. This account of his experience on The Flower of Gloster remains unique in its descriptions of a now bygone age and provides the reader with a real insight into the rural scene and the way of life of the boat people in the early 1900s.
