Overview

When the crew of the pirate ship The Lady Mary quest for the key to everlasting life, they instead find themselves in Hell. To return from Hell, Captain Andrew Glove makes a deal with the Devil; he wagers his and the crew's souls for a chance to escape. The journey out of Hell takes The Lady Mary on a trip across planets where they encounter blood-thirsty reptiles and violent storms, not to mention mermaids and demons. With a gate that can get them anywhere, the endless possibility causes Glove's son, Tom, to become ambitious; the crew finds themselves bickering and divided. To make matters worse, Glove's dreaded rival, Blackbeard, has also made a deal, and has set out with a herd of satanic cattle bound to destroy the Earth. Imagery of Milton and Dante host an often comedic, though frequently morbid, fantasy adventure with a cast of pirates, cowboys, mermaids and aliens who all feel deeply human.
