Overview

The Five Day Week is a beautiful story about an 8 year old girl named Elena who decides that she much prefers the free time of weekends to the school filled regimen of weekdays. To achieve her fantasy of less school, Elena cleverly persuades her entire school, including the Principal, that a Five Day Week is simply better for everyone. Just as the entire school is about to celebrate the wonderful invention of the Five Day Week, Elena is suddenly struck with great remorse for the days she has eliminated. Read as Elena comes to the realization that every single day is important!

Author Information

Hanna Eisenstein is currently a Student at Duke University who has written several unpublished short stories. As long as Hanna can remember she has been drawn to writing and storytelling. This is her first effort at actually publishing one of her stories. She conceived of and wrote this book at age six and then spent the next 13 years slowly illustrating it. With many of the characters being named after childhood friends and family members, this story is just as much about Hanna as it about the book's protagonist, Elena. As you flip through the pages you can guess how old Hanna was for each illustration, and slowly understand the importance of appreciating each and every day of the week. Hanna hopes to continue to write more stories as she finishes college, and if all goes well, she hopes you'll have The Five Day Week in your hands by 2033.
