Reviews

Southbridge is so very fortunate to have Jacob Edwards Library, as I believe it's one of the very best libraries in the Commonwealth. Our library services people of all ages, backgrounds and demographics, whether its through information, lending books and DVDs, accessing the internet, its vast local history resources, or just its wonderful programming for children and adults alike. Through its first 100 years, Jacob Edwards Library has been a true constant in the community, and one can only imagine what heights it will reach and what role it will play in the next 100 years. Shaun Moriarty, Southbridge Town Council Chairman, Southbridge Bicentennial Co-Chairman Public libraries are the pillars of democracy. Every time I go to the Jacob Edwards library I am reminded of this. What an important and valuable resource this library is for the community. Even though I live thirty minutes away, I use this library regularly for my own research as a writer. The staff is dedicated and helpful; they keep the Jacob Edwards library vital and alive. Leila Philip Anyone who loves Southbridge and her history will be taken up by the story of the Jacob Edwards Library. The Library is a true treasure not only for our town, but to those who lives in the surrounding area; knowing its history enhances one's appreciation of what we have. Modern libraries are so much more than stacks of books, this book gets inside the transformation from its origins from book collections to being a modern storehouse of information, learning, and social activity. Fr. Peter Joyce, Town Trustee for JEL, founding Pastor of Saint John Paul II Parish, Southbridge The story of the Jacob Edwards Library is an amazing journey through the history of libraries in Southbridge. The importance the Jacob Edwards Library has served as a repository of knowledge, gathering place, and strong anchor of our community is all brought out in this wonderful book. Steven K. Brady, Southbridge Historical Society and Southbridge Bicentennial Co-Chairman
