The Fight Against AIDS Is No Longer Profitable for the United States

Overview

Dependence on US funding sources is destabilizing the global AIDS response. Particularly in Africa, more than half of all AIDS spending comes from US sources. Since January 2025, U.S. investment in the AIDS response has gradually declined, and then ceased definitively with the closure of USAID in July 2025. To paraphrase a metaphor borrowed from the former Prime Minister of Mali, Dr. Choguel Kokala Maiga, ""the fight against AIDS dropped in mid-air by Donald Trump's America"".The question posed by this book is how to negotiate a new balanced agenda with new partners in association with the search for new diversified funding resources, in other words, innovative funding resources, knowing that the UN's wager to eliminate AIDS by 2030 is already lost. With this new situation, what then are the options to the crisis of dependence on the United States, particularly for a continent like Africa?
