The Female ""Nuisance"" in Today's Islam

Overview

Women in the Muslim world have been traditionally oppressed, often brutally disciplined, and in various stages of their lives doomed to total obedience to their men. Evidence of this is found in the Holy Qur'an, where the Prophet Muhammad, ""the most perfect of men"" and the model to all Muslims for generations, mistreated his many women, but was never criticized by Muslims because he was infallible. In modern times, and especially among Muslim women who migrated to the West, substantial progress has unfolded. Yet in Muslim countries and among radical Muslims in the West, great efforts - some subtle and some brutal - have been made by clerics and activists of the Muslim Brotherhood to ""repent,"" thereby adhering once again to their traditional treatment of women.
