Brian Cairns started his working life as an apprentice agricultural engineer in 1977, then undertook further training at Rycotewood College, obtained a degree in agricultural engineering at Writtle College and went on to teach at the College. Throughout his time at Writtle, Brian maintained a keen interest in engineering and machinery, and was involved in partnerships with the machinery manufacturers and dealerships, and in their technician apprenticeship schemes. Currently employed as Director for Sustainable Built Environment and Land-based Industries at MOVE Life Long Learning Network in the East of England, Brian works with industry and universities to develop new courses for people who are in employment in his areas of responsibility.
