Overview

The story of Tommy Bungeleene Two aboriginal brothers, sons of Chief Bungeleene, the supposed captor of the fabled 'White Woman of Gippsland', are taken under the wings of well-meaning Europeans on the death of their father. The older brother, Wurrabool, passes away, leaving young Tommy Bungeleene the focus of the Protector of Aborigines attention. It is the declared aim of the Protector and his superiors to turn Tommy into a gentleman - a paternalistic undertaking, repeated referred to as an 'experiment'. In the end, could it be said the experiment proved a success, or did fate provoke a failure?
