The Evil I Have Seen

Overview

Reader's Favorite True Crime 2022, The Evil I Have Seen is a collection of six murder cases that haunt the memories of retired Detective Lt. Robert (Robbo) Davidson. Awakened night after night by the ghost of some murder victims hovering in the darkness over his bed, denying him sleep, Robbo resolves to tell their stories. To lend these victims a voice, for better or worse. ""I think if I do not, the evil I have seen may never let me sleep,"" the detective writes. Each story is based on his actual case files as a deputy for the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Department between 1981 and 2014. These stories were compiled by combining Robbo's memories with witness statements, trial transcripts, and interviews with the people involved. Robbo even traveled to Louisiana prisons, interviewing men he helped convict, to elicit their memories of the crimes.

Reviews

Reviewed by Ankita Shukla for Readers' Favorite Five Stars -Reviewed by Ankita Shukla for Readers' Favorite Evil has lurked among us since the beginning of time, but very few actually witness its gruesome and gut-wrenching display of cruelty. In his career as a detective, Robert Davidson (aka Robbo) saw more monstrosity than most of us. In his memoir, The Evil I have Seen, Robert Davidson has described six gruesome true crime cases. This memoir is not for the faint of heart; it is not fiction, so the reader does not have the luxury of waving away the disturbing cruelty of culprits, crediting it to the author's imagination. Case after case, the audience stands face to face with the worst and the most innocent of humans, wondering how could someone do that? Although each case was as unsettling as the next one, the one titled Jeff's Friends was beyond heartbreaking. The Evil I have Seen by Robert Davidson is one of those books that will live with readers and even haunt them for a long time. By his own admission, Robert struggles with the evil that he had seen, even today. Each crime story, though presented with hard facts and pieces of evidence, is heavy with the author's emotions. The audience watches as the author switches gears from presenting facts and logic to reflecting on the victim's suffering, the culprit's soulless act, the lifelong heartache of the victim's friends and family, and the everlasting impact on the detective. The author's words are filled with a contagious passion. When he says, ""It's not something we talk about -- people in law enforcement -- our nightmares, our anxieties, our fears of making a wrong decision in a split second,"" readers feel a palpable sense of dismay. Robert is an authentic writer whose sentiments rise out of the pages and touch the hearts of his readers. I highly recommend The Evil I have Seen by Robert Davidson. 5 Stars - Reviewed by Vernita Naylor for Readers' Favorite Everyone has something that haunts them. Some people reluctantly live with it while others pray for peace due to a strong desire for it to go away. But Detective Robert Davidson decided that he should give a voice to what continues to haunt him and maybe then have some release. During his forty-year career at the DeSoto Parish in Louisiana as a detective, there were some murder cases that consistently lived with him after his retirement. In his book, The Evil I Have Seen: Memoirs From the Case Files of Det. Lt. Robert (Robbo) Davidson, the author provides detailed accounts of six crime stories that stood out in his mind. As you walk in the shoes of Detective Davidson you will be able to glean the process and procedures for working a case. In this book, you'll feel like you're a part of the investigation team as you review the case background, scan the crime scenes, look at photos, locate and interview witnesses, talk to friends and families of the victims, and apprehend the criminals. The Evil I Have Seen by Robert Davidson is a must-read for those with an interest in law enforcement, becoming a private investigator, detective, or working on a drug task force because this book has everything from rape, murder, and gangs to drugs. Or if you have an interest in reading books about murder, mystery, crime, or mayhem, and want to fully understand how cases are handled, you've come to the right place. Here
