She received her BA in Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley, her MA and PhD degrees in Medical Anthropology from the University of Hawaii - Manoa, an MSW degree from California State University at East Bay, and a pupil personnel service credential from California State University at San Jose. She is a faculty at California State University at Stanislaus in the Social Work Department. Her research focuses on various aspects of trauma and has worked with the military, veterans, refugees, and immigrants. She is working on a book entitled ""exiled"" based on her recent film.
