The values that make us the envy of the world are based on religious/moral foundation held by our founders and every generation since 1776. These values are non-political; rather they represent the core principles underlying our behavior and are enshrined in our constitution and laws. For the most part, they represent a belief in the goodness of man and the actions that support human happiness and fulfillment. The book identifies 20 American values and uses 300 Haiku poems to explore their meaning and importance. It encourages the readers to identify other values important to them and add them to the list. Reading the book provides us the opportunity to think about our own lives and how we contribute to making America great.
