The Equus Manifesto: How Traditional Equine Training & Care Is Ruining Your Horse's Mind, Body, and Spirit.

Overview

The Equus Manifesto outlines what's wrong with traditional riding and training practices and the resulting psychological damage done to the horses abused under such misguided methods. From clearly defining the various terms associated with abuse to discussing what needs to change in the horse industry, The Equus Manifesto calls on horse lovers everywhere to elevate their understanding about what might be ethically and morally incorrect in their training programs. Referring to scientific research in animal behavior, and documenting psychological disorders as post-traumatic stress, dissociation, and learned helplessness, The Equus Manifesto brings to light many challenges that are facing horses and equine rescues and asks some very difficult moral questions. A definite must read for any serious horse lover. (Author's Note: Some readers have not understood the intention for this work. This is a manifesto. A manifesto is a published verbal declaration of the personal & professional views of the issuer. In this instance, The Equus Manifesto is designed to get people to think about their reasons behind why they choose to elicit domination and control using ancient technologies of force and pain over another living being from a scientific, psychological and spiritual perspective. I've invested over twenty years of research into animal behavior and rehabilitation. This has been a life-long passion of mine. )

Author Information

Isis is an equine-human relationship facilitator, behaviorist, and healer with over 20 years experience working with horses. She specializes in building strong foundations and bridges for true inter-species communication, trust and mutual respect between equine and human partners. I no longer train or work with people and their horses. This came as a difficult philosophical and personal decision of mine. There are many wonderful alternatives to negative conditioning and fear-based abusive training methodologies currently in use today. There are also phenomenal, modern, easy-to-use riding and training instruments that do not require a person to implement pain or torture in order to train. These approaches enhances a horse's natural intelligence, while making them far safer, faster to train and condition, more trustworthy and calmer in every instance. After rehabilitating some of the most dangerous animals in the world, I can attest that the methods recommended in this work have been proven to work above and beyond any clinician's proprietary strategies. If, after reading this Manifesto, you would like to learn more about positive, non-aggressive horse-human partnerships, I advise searching on the Internet on Equine Clicker Training and visiting Nevzorov Haute Ecole for deeper thinking about how to modify your current training practices to be more positive and rewarding for yourself and your horse partner.
