Overview

Beginning in the late 1800s, unsuspecting Americans began discovering random stones inscribed with Viking runes- artifacts which defied conventional wisdom, for not only were they found along the Atlantic coast but in rural areas over a thousand miles inland. Most academics have long dismissed these anomalies as nothing more than elaborate hoaxes, however over the years there has developed an entrenched cadre of believers convinced of their authenticity and an alternative view of history which suggested the interior of the North American continent had been explored many hundreds of years before Columbus was born. Over the decades a cottage industry of books, movies, documentaries have increased in popularity- all confident that conventional historians and their traditional methods have gotten it all wrong. Academics have countered with simple requests for verifiable proof. The result has been a century-long stalemate; one side believing in the stones' veracity, the other suspecting the finds are nothing more than well-executed hoaxes. Paul Stewart is best known for his career as an entertainment artist, having worked as an Art Director for Walt Disney Imagineering in California, Japan and France as well as a special effects artist for Landmark Entertainment. He has contributed to numerous movies and television shows as well as providing artwork for high-profile publications and private corporations. For the last decade he has worked exclusively in the museum industry, providing his expertise on four presidential libraries and over fifty nature centers, state/national parks and private organizations found throughout the United States. Paul holds a B.A. in Art Design from Cal State Northridge and resides in the Commonwealth of Virginia with his wife and four children. The Enigmatist is his first book.
