In writing this book, I have attempted to strike a balance between technical detail and accessible narrative. I delve into the physical and infrastructural characteristics of Crete's energy system-its generation capacities, grid limitations, storage needs, and interconnection prospects-while also examining the policy instruments, regulatory frameworks, and local initiatives shaping its evolution. I also present case studies that highlight both successes and setbacks, offering critical insights into what works, what doesn't, and why. Ultimately, this book is an invitation-to researchers to deepen their engagement with insular energy systems; to policymakers to design context-sensitive, forward-thinking strategies; and to citizens to participate in shaping a greener, more secure energy future.
