The Emotion Collector: Awakening

Overview

In a dystopian future where emotions are harvested as hazardous waste, one woman's forbidden awakening becomes humanity's last hope. Senior Collector Emma Thorne is the totalitarian Council's most precise weapon - an empath engineered to extract human feeling and dispose of it like contamination. She has never questioned her purpose. She has never felt love, grief, or joy of her own. She has never failed. Until a four-year-old's pure love fractures her conditioning and changes everything. When her collection field fails on a stranger immune to suppression, Emma is drawn into an underground resistance that reveals a government conspiracy decades in the making. Emotions aren't dangerous waste - they are living energy bound to planetary survival. And the Council's manufactured peace is slowly killing the world. But the betrayal that shatters Emma goes far deeper than politics. Her mother is the architect of suppression. The woman who ordered Emma's father murdered. The woman who buried Emma's hidden past, her family secrets, and the truth about who Emma was chosen to become. Now her mother's final project - code-named Terminus - will permanently sever humanity's ability to feel. The ticking clock gives Emma hours, not days. To stop it, Emma must do what no one expects: not defeat her mother, but heal her. The mother-daughter conflict at the heart of the suppression system can only be broken by the one thing the system was built to destroy - an act of forbidden love so powerful it could restore the world's heart or consume Emma entirely. A dystopian science fiction novel about rebellion, sacrifice, and the courage to feel in a world that has forgotten how. For fans of The Giver, Delirium, Divergent, and Fahrenheit 451 - readers who crave a chosen one story where empathy is the ultimate weapon and hope survives against impossible odds. Tropes readers love: Dystopian rebellion - Forbidden romance - Chosen one - Empath powers - Mother-daughter conflict - Government conspiracy - Hidden identity - Heroic sacrifice - Found family - Race against time Order now and discover what happens when the weapon learns to love.

Reviews

I wasn't sure what to expect from The Emotion Collector, but I loved it. The more characters I met, the more characters there were to love and others to try to understand their motivations. It's one of those things, just because you can do something, should you? I love this thought-provoking novel. Once I started, I didn't want to stop. I love novels that surprise me, and I was surprised at the twists and turns that Richard French threw my way. -- Sherry Fundin

Author Information

Richard French writes speculative fiction, fantasy, theology, and ethical non-fiction bound by a single thread: moral courage under impossible pressure. His characters confront dimensional magic, AI consciousness, and civilizational collapse - and in every case, face the cost of doing what's right when the world demands otherwise. His theological work, including the bestselling Revelation Explained: Verse by Verse, brings the same clarity and intellectual rigor to biblical prophecy. Across novels, short stories, commentary, and essays, Richard's work asks one persistent question: What would you risk for the truth?
