OverviewThe Economy of Innovation In an era defined by the speed of change and the omnipresence of information, in which the prosperity of individuals and nations overwhelmingly depends on the ability to generate and manage intangible assets, this book emerges not just as a necessity, but as a veritable strategic compass. I have had the privilege of witnessing, from within the academic and research environment of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, the constant efforts to transform innovative ideas into technological progress and economic value. I have thus understood a fundamental truth that this work articulates with exceptional clarity: generating a revolutionary invention or an original creation is only the first step of a complex journey. The true challenge, the one that makes the difference between an effort destined for oblivion and a sustainable success, lies in protecting, strategically managing, and intelligently capitalizing on this intellectual capital. This work succeeds in offering concrete answers to this challenge. It is not a simple legal treatise, but a practical guide, an indispensable manual for its target audience: innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, managers, creators, and students - all the actors who constitute the engine of the knowledge economy. The great merit of the authors is that they have built a logical architecture, taking the reader on a complete journey through the universe of intellectual property. From defining the fundamental concepts of innovation and intellectual property and mapping the national, European, and international legal and institutional framework, the work dissects, in turn, each major instrument in the IP arsenal: the invention patent, trademarks and geographical indications, copyright and related rights, industrial designs, and trade secrets. However, the book does not stop at protection. The chapters dedicated to economic valorization strategies, strategic portfolio management, and, finally, the defense of rights close the circle, transforming the work from a simple source of information into a tool for action. The approach is holistic, permanently emphasizing the complementarity of protection forms and the imperative of aligning the intellectual property strategy with the overall business strategy. The content of the work reflects the depth of the authors' experience, a rare synergy between high-level managerial vision and the practical expertise of the inventor. The strategic perspective of Mihnea Costoiu, Rector of UNSTPB, former Minister Delegate for Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Technological Development, is found in the chapters dedicated to aligning IP strategy with business strategy and economic valorization. In contrast, the direct experience of Prof. Augustin Semenescu, a prolific inventor and laureate of numerous international awards, offers exceptional technical depth to the chapters on patents, designs, and trade secrets. Their joint effort perfectly reflects the mission of our university, POLITEHNICA Bucharest: to be not only a generator of knowledge and innovation, but also a catalyst for their translation into concrete economic and social benefits. This book is, in essence, a materialization of this mission, a transfer of valuable know-how to the entire innovation ecosystem in Romania. I recommend this work with full confidence to anyone who wishes to successfully navigate the 21st-century economy. It is an investment in knowledge that, I am convinced, will bring substantial dividends to those who apply its teachings. An inspiring read and success in the economy of innovation!
