Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2020 Format: Kindle Edition This debut novel written by Shira Smith, along with her phenomenal writing techniques, creates a marvelous story about the struggles teens faces during their teenage years. I can easily relate to this book, from family conflicts to emotional stress at school, Smith did a wonderful job at building that connection from her experiences, integrating it into this book and delivering a masterpiece to her readers. A few chapters into the book, not only I am fascinated by her styles of writing, but I'm also shocked by how much I find myself in the same situation as the experiences described in this book. I learned many valuable lessons from Smith's hands on experiences, and it feels like having a mentor guiding me through the struggles of my teenage years. As an educator, I can relate to the heartbreak of disclosure about trauma beyond a young person's control. Shira paints vivid pictures of real issues facing American teens and offers insight into practical steps that can be taken to enjoy rather than despise the teenage experience. The author's transparency and organizational detail is much appreciated as this quick read will be digestible, yet thought provoking for my own students. I'm looking forward to future works by this author.
