The Downshifter's Cartoon Joke Book

Overview

When you think about it, anyone wanting to quit a comfortable, well-paid job with a pension and an expense account to go and work for nothing knee deep in something is comical and Les' cartoons certainly help us to see the funny side of most things that smallholders, downshifters and good lifers seem to get up to. This book is guaranteed to bring a laugh at the turn of each and every page, as Les' sharp, inspired drawings and slyly topical captions take a gentle but loving dig at downshifters, townies and rural living and a rather less kind dig at red tape, politicians and anybody else who regularly gets on our wick.

Author Information

Les began drawing seriously at school and, although he was never really interested in painting any of the 'still life stuff,' he often drew wickedly funny caricatures of the teaching staff for the amusement of his friends, if not the staff itself. On growing up he got a 'proper' job in an office, but quit in a temporary moment of sanity to set up a gardening business with his wife. He has not looked back since, and now, 4 years later, his quality of life (unlike his bank account) is much improved. Les decided to get back to what he really loved - cartoons and his regular feature in Home Farmer has become a sure hit with the readers, to the point that he is now being asked for the originals (and not only as evidence by the plaintiffs' solicitors. Les lives in Hampshire where he and his wife run their landscape gardening business and share their home with 2 great children, 2 dogs and 2 chickens.
