Overview

This is special re-print edition of the 1st edition of the Rev. E.S. Dixon's legendary book ""The Dovecote"". Published in 1851, this is considered one of the most important works of the 19th Century on Domestic Pigeons. Original copies of this book are extremely rare and often sell for hundreds of dollars. This book features insights into all the breeds of Fancy, Utility and Flying pigeons that were known in England during the second half of the 19th Century such as Runts, Trumpeters, Archangels, Nuns, Turbits, Flying Tumblers, Helmets, Pouters and Croppers, Carriers, Antwerps, Frillbacks and others. Chapters include Introduction to Pigeons, Management of Pigeons, The Classiication of Pigeons, Domestic Pigeons, Pigeons Which Are Both Wild and Domestic and Pigeons Not Capable of True Domestication. This is one of the most authorative books of its kind and still pertinent to pigeon fanciers over 160 years later. Note: This edition is a perfect facsimile of the original edition and is not set in a modern typeface. As a result, some type characters and images might suffer from slight imperfections or minor shadows in the page background.
